Barbara Anne Stokes Cummins passed away October 28, 2023. \n\nShe was born February 8, 1928 to Dreka Wilder Stokes and Sidney Sumner Stokes in Beaufort, and would go on to graduate from Beaufort High School and attend the University of South Carolina. She met her husband Robert Wayne Cummins in early 1949 when the two were playing in a co-ed basketball league while he was stationed on Parris Island as a Marine. They were married August 14, 1949 in a simple ceremony at the Carteret Street United Methodist Church, initially against her mother’s wishes, and remained married until her death. Her mother came to whole-heartedly embrace her daughter’s wonderful choice of husband. \n\nAs evidenced by her marriage, Barbara Anne lived her life the way that she wanted and was not concerned with others’ opinions of her. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with the fierceness that she displayed in every part of her life.\n\nShe is survived by her husband Robert; two of her children Robert Wayne Cummins, Jr. (Jody), and Barbara Anne Cummins; daughter-in-law Karen Cummins; grandchildren Robert Wayne Cummins, III (Jessica), Jennifer Caskey (Jay), Sydney Derrick (Josh), Ryan Cummins (Emily), and Perry Cummins (Megan); eight great-grandchildren (plus one on the way); and several nieces and nephews. \n\nShe is pre-deceased by her son Sidney Keith Cummins, her parents, and her siblings.
