Austin Davis, Jr. Obituary (1933

Austin passed away on June 14, 2022 at the age of 88. Born December 1, 1933 in Paradise Valley (San Diego) CA., to Elbert Austin Davis Sr and Musetta Platt Davis. A graduate of Beaufort HS, class of 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy that same year where he spent the next 20 years rising through the ranks from Seaman to Chief Warrant Officer. Much of his career was spent on the USS Forrestal, USS FD Roosevelt, USS Saratoga, USS Ranger and the USS Kula Gulf. Duties stretched from the numbing cold of Iceland to the warm tropics of Bermuda and Puerto Rico and he witnessed the worlds transition from propeller to jet propulsion. After completing college he served the US Marine Corps DoD Laurel Bay school system, teaching 2nd grade for another 20 years and completing his Masters + 30 hours Degree in Elementary Education. Austin was a member of Port Royal Baptist Church, Port Royal Masonic Lodge and the Shriner's. He is survived by his wife Gerry with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on May 3, 2022, brother David Karl Davis, sons David (Stephanie) of Augusta, GA., Mark (Nancy) of Greenville, S.C., five grandchildren, Jason, (Alana), Jennifer, Bonnie (Shawn), Aaron (Meaghan), Virginia and four great-grandchildren, Savanna, Olivia, Bella and Alexander. Austin was well known to his family and every friend as accepting, kind, gentle and of a Godly spirit. Viewing will be held at Anderson Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 21st from 10:00-11:30 a.m., Chapel Service 12:00-12:30 p.m. and entombment in Forest Lawn Mausoleum (Anderson Funeral Home) following the Chapel Service.
