Anne Eversole

–

Okatie, South Carolina

Anne W. Eversole, 94, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 22, 2026. She was born on March 26, 1932, in Poosie Ridge, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Madrue Murphy West and K. Dillard West. Her Kentucky roots remained an important part of who she was throughout her life.

Anne met Carl J. Eversole in Richmond, Kentucky, and the two were married there. In the 1960s, they moved to Beaufort, South Carolina, when Carl was stationed at the Naval Air Station as a naval aviator. What began as a military assignment became a lifelong home, as Anne and Carl chose to make Beaufort the place where they would build their family and spend the rest of their lives.

Anne embraced the life of a military wife and genuinely enjoyed the people and social life that came with it. She was outgoing, funny, and fun to be around. She had a natural ability to make people feel welcome and was always ready to step in and help when something needed to be done. Whether among military families, friends, neighbors, or members of the Beaufort community, Anne enjoyed being part of things.

Over many years, Anne knitted hundreds soft swaddling blankets and caps for newborn babies at the Naval Hospital. It was one of the many ways she found to help others. She gave those blankets freely, and they became a small but meaningful expression of her kindness and her connection to the military community.

Anne had a wonderful Kentucky spirit and was not afraid to let you know when you had crossed the line. When a child got a little too far out of hand, she could deliver a warning in her unmistakable Kentucky drawl: “I’ll jerk a knot in your tail.” It was usually enough to get everyone's attention—and, years later, became one of those Anne-isms that her family remembers with a smile. She had a personality that could be both warm and spirited, and she left her own unmistakable mark on the people who knew her.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Carl J. Eversole, USMC, and their son, Joey Eversole. She is survived by their son, Ken Eversole and his wife, Alysoun; her grandson, Joseph Alan Eversole and his wife, Caitlin; and her two great-granddaughters, Kaylee Grace and Iris McKenna Eversole.

Anne was laid to rest with her husband at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and, no doubt, occasionally quoted—with a smile—by the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know her.
