Albert Joseph Mascaro, Jr

–

Beaufort, South Carolina

Albert Joseph Mascaro, Jr. April 17, 1958 - June 5, 2014 The family of Albert Joseph Mascaro, Jr., 56, mourns his unexpected passing on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Medical University of South Carolina. Al became ill a few days prior to being rushed to Beaufort Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening, June 3rd; then flown to MUSC where he died surrounded by his family shortly afterwards of acute pancreatitis. Little Al and/or Bubba was the son of the late Albert Joseph Mascaro, Sr. and Catherine Humbert Brooks of Port Royal, S.C. Al grew up in Port Royal, graduating from Beaufort High School in 1976. He spent most of his life working with his father at Port Royal Oil Company, Port Royal Car Wash and later Port Royal Recycling. After his father's sudden death in 1995, Al became owner of Port Royal Oil Co. and Recycling until he sold it in 2001. Al later opened Beaufort Recycling. Al will always be remembered by his passions. He was happiest "out in the river" fishing, shrimping and gathering oysters for others. At the age of 8 he would take old rowboats he would find banked off the marsh to explore the river and creeks of Port Royal. He also spent much of his early days diving in the Beaufort area looking for anything "old". He had an impressive collection of antique bottles which he gave away to friends and family who showed a shared interest. He loved music, specifically the Beatles. Al always enjoyed being in the company of animals and later in life catered to his German Shepherds to the point he gave them an old trailer with a fenced in yard to call their own. Little Al was preceded in death by his father, Al Mascaro of Port Royal, S.C., formerly of Pittsburgh, PA. He is survived by his mother and step father, Catherine and Glen Brooks of Port Royal and wife, Cindy McCartha of Lady's Island, S.C. Al is also survived by three daughters: Kelsey, Taylor, and Merryn Mascaro and one grandson, Brayden Mascaro, his sister, Kathy (Dan) Knisley, one nephew, Dylan Knisley, two nieces, Kate and Rosie Knisley and one aunt, Rose Mascaro Kutsenkow. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 5 - 7 at Anderson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Beaufort County Animal Shelter, PO Drawer 1228, Beaufort, South Carolina 29901.
